St. Catherine of Alexandria 

Status (official): Patroness of philosophers and preachers.
Status (unofficial): Patroness of nurses, fireworks, wheel makers and the town of Dunstable. Catherine wheel named after her.

Last Sighted: sometime in the 4th century

Description: Converted to Christianity through a vision. Denounced Maxentius for persecuting Christians; fifty of her converts were then burnt to death. Maxentius wanted her to marry a King and deny the faith, but she refused and he put her in prison. She responded by converting his wife and two hundred of his soldiers. He had them all executed.

Death: He tried to crush Catherine on a spiked wheel, but it shattered into millions of pieces killing and blinding many bystanders. Because this failed, he chopped off her head.
